Non Dischargeable Debt

When filing bankruptcy there are certain types of debt that you cannot simply get rid of through the process of bankruptcy.

Please print this list and carry with you when you visit with your attorney.

This list is a general list and may vary state to state. Each state has varying rules and guidelines when it comes to bankruptcy. But the following is a list of certain items that are typically and/or often non-dischargeable through bankruptcy.

  • Federal, state and local taxes
  • Child support
  • Alimony or spousal support
  • Student loans
  • Mortgage liens
  • Government agency liens, penalties or fines
  • Debt left off the schedule and forms filed with the bankruptcy court
  • Fines levied due to drunk driving
  • Certain purchases made within a specified time frame prior to filing bankruptcy
  • Items considered gained through the action of fraud

This may not be a complete list of non-dischargeable items. Please consult with your bankruptcy attorney and bankruptcy lawyer to determine if you have debts that are considered non dischargeable through bankruptcy.
